Las Posas at Xilitla:
Chuck Finally Makes It To Paradise
In early May of 2000 I at last fulfilled my long held fantasy to dwell in the midst of the exotic labyrinthian jungle creation known as “Las Pozas (in Spanish, the pools) at Xilitla in northeastern Mexico. The surreal dreaming experience I had in this ethereal rain forest setting, with its multitude of indescribably delicate and eminently climbable structures, was wildly beyond my most fevered expectations. On the other side of the hot jungle valley, under the stunning “Molars of God” mountain peaks, was my breezy eagle’s nest in the Castle Inn’s highest room. After my week’s stay, I left this unique and mystical place convinced it was truly the center piece of visionary . environments for the Western Hemisphere. My flight home from Tampico to San Francisco switched planes in Houston where I paid a small penalty and stayed for two days to immerse in its thriving and vibrant underground art scene. The pictures and descriptions that follow are attempts to capture the excitement of my experiences in Xilitla and Houston.
